USING HERBS TO IMPROVE YOUR QUALITY OF HEALTH

On February 7th, the Inn will host its second of four Fireside Chats on Holistic Health Now. This chat is titled Using Herbs to Improve Your Quality of Health and is part of a partnership with The Institute of Holistic Health Careers.

For over 5000 years herbs have played a vital role in health care and well-being and even today most drugs rely on herbology.

Herbology is the use of plants for health and wellness and is a natural, non-toxic way to bring balance to a person's health. Herbs may be used not just when ailments occur, but also to maintain your general health and vitality.

If you would like to learn more about how herbs can improve your quality of life, join us for this free Fireside Chat. Pre-registration is required, so contact the Inn for more information. All are welcome!

MANAGEMENT TEAM COOKS TOGETHER

Innkeepers Ellen and Terry recently took the Inn's management team to Woodhaven Farm in Johnston, Ohio. The Farm is 10 acres of beauty and includes two ponds, an organic garden, a greenhouse, and a barn that holds a state of the art kitchen. It was this kitchen that brought us to the farm and provided us with the unique opportunity to spend quality time together as a team.

Woodhaven Farm owner, Tami Cecil, utilizes her kitchen for Corporate Team Building, using the process of food preparation to create an atmosphere that promotes comfortable interaction among the team members and an emphasis on having fun. We definitely found that to be true.

Tami greeted us upon arrival and explained the dishes that we would be making. We divided into two teams and spent the next two hours preparing a variety of recipes, including Jarlsburg and red onion spread with pita chips, red wine balsamic vinaigrette with salad greens, pork tenderloin with rosemary cream sauce, roasted garlic smashed potatoes, caramelized green beans, and a delectable chocolate dessert.

The best part was at the end, when we were able to sit down, eat what we had made, and visit with each other in a warm and stress free environment. Taking our staff away was a perfect opportunity to mingle, have fun, and get to know each other better. Tami Cecil's program at Woodhaven Farm was just the thing for us...corporate team building through cooking.

WONDERS OF OLD MAN'S CAVE AND THE HOCKING HILLS

This Friday, January 22nd, at 2pm, Hocking Hills State Park is hosting Wonders of Old Man's Cave. Participants will be led by Park Naturalists on a short hike, discovering some of the facts about the history of the area and the rock formations that are found throughout the park.

Old Man's Cave is one of Ohio's most popular natural attractions and the most visited one in the Hocking Hills. The gorge enveloping the cave is a natural formation and runs about a half mile, reaching depths of roughly 150 feet at the deepest point. Old Man's Cave itself is named for an early settler, Richard Rowe, who took to living in the cave after the Civil War.

Wonders of Old Man's Cave is a free event and you can contact Hocking Hills State Park for more information.

We hope you'll take a trip down to the Hocking Hills. It's beautiful, even in the winter!

GENEALOGY FIRESIDE CHAT

This weekend we are pleased to host our next Fireside Chat, led by Phil Cartmille and titled Genealogy - How to Get Started.

Genealogy is the study of families and the tracing of their lineage and history. Oral traditions, genetic research, and historical research can all be used to offer insight into the lives of people, our families and our history.

Today there are literally thousands of sources and websites dedicated to assisting those who would like to research their family tree, even allowing you a central place on the internet for kin information about all people you know who have ever lived and automatically creating bloodline trees. Wow. With so much information available, it is hard to know where to start.

Let us help you! Join us for our Genealogy Fireside Chat on January 24 and let Phil Cartmille get you started on your own family tree.

Remember, these events are free and you receive 25% off of your overnight stay! So take a trip down to the Hocking Hills - and down memory lane. We look forward to seeing you!

COOKINN IN THE HOCKING HILLS

One of the most exciting things about the beginning of a new year is the introduction of all new dates for Chef Anthony's CookInn classes! These popular classes offer a hands-on opportunity to learn how to prepare a feast fit for a king or queen and are a great time with your spouse, girlfriends, or even just by yourself.

A two night stay is required so that you can enjoy a glass of wine and dessert with Chef Anthony on Friday night, while discussing your menu for the next day and reviewing recipes.

Feel free to enjoy a massage in our fabulous spa on Saturday morning, but be ready to work in the kitchen throughout the afternoon, preparing the evening dinner meal, visiting with fellow guests and Chef Anthony, and just having an all-around fun time.

Save some energy for dinner on Saturday night, where you will enjoy all that you have prepared plus more from our award-winning kitchen.

This year our winter class will include slow cook goodness and is certainly not to be missed! Dates are January 29-30. Contact the Inn to make your reservation!

STUART'S OPERA HOUSE

If you are planning a trip to the Hocking Hills soon, you definitely don't want to miss a stop at Stuart's Opera House in Nelsonville.

Originally built in the late 1800's and reopened in 1997, Stuart's is located in Nelsonville's Historic Square Arts District and is an institution in southeastern Ohio. A lovingly restored theater, it provides a long list of cultural events and is the premier place for live music in the area.

The Opera House is currently preparing for its first ever Ohio Winter Folk Festival on January 16. A full slate of great bands will perform and a music swap meet and DIY craft fair will take place in the lobby.

This is just one of the many great reasons to visit the Hocking Hills. We look forward to seeing you!
