BIRD WATCHING IN HOCKING HILLS OHIO

Friends,
Our resident
barn swallow is again making her nest in the eves over the front office. Every year she meticulously searches for just the right materials, builds a small but homey nest and lays her eggs all within a few feet of our front door. Each spring we take great joy in watching her sit on her eggs until finally her new family hatches before our eyes. Sometime in May, we will have beautiful new baby barn swallows entering the world and chirping for their first meal.
These new baby birds will be the welcoming committee for other feathered friends that will be returning to
Hocking Hills from a long winter in the warmer south. May 8th-10th is International Migratory Bird Weekend.

Dear Friends,

Flowers are blooming everywhere, the morels are on their way.  The ground is still too cold.  So, what’s been going on with us?

Terry and Ellen went to their THINK meeting in Greensboro, NC a couple of weeks ago.  They were blessed to stay at the Proximity Hotel which is the first LEED certified green hotel in the US.  The owner as well as many of the department heads spent several days with all of us.  Ellen just returned from Atlanta.  She had a Select Registry board meeting and PAII conference.  Ellen brought back many new and fresh ideas for the staff and the Inn.

One of the most exciting topics of discussion at the conference was all the social media.  Please join us on facebook, linkedin and twitter.  We invite you to write us, become our friends, share your stories and stays here, and send information to your followers and links.

Anyone tried out geocaching yet?  What is that you say?  Geocaching (pronounced geo-cashing) is a worldwide game of hiding and seeking treasure. A geocacher can place a geocache in the world, pinpoint its location using GPS technology and then share the geocache's existence and location online. Anyone with a GPS device can then try to locate the geocache.  The Inn has joined the game!  We have three hidden treasures on the property.  Come give it a try next time you are in the area.  There are many other hidden treasures in Hocking County too.

We are inviting our guests to submit photos and videos for us to use on our website.  To entice you even more, we are offering a contest.  Submit your photos and videos and we will enter you in a drawing for a FREE weeknight stay in a cottage.   We will have a quarterly drawing.

A few happenings in May follow.  Details are on our website.
